Gru's Back for More Bananas in Despicable Me 4
Get ready for some summer laughs! Everyone's favorite reformed supervillain Gru is returning to the big screen on July 3rd, 2024, in Despicable Me 4. This latest installment promises to be filled with even more hilarious antics from Gru, his loyal yellow Minions, and his wacky adopted family.
We already know Steve Carell will be back to voice Gru, along with Kristen Wiig returning as Lucy Wilde, Gru's wife and former Anti-Villain League (AVL) agent. The girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, will also be making another appearance. But this time around, Gru's family is about to get a little bit bigger. There's a new addition – a mischievous little boy named Gru Jr., though who will be voicing this character is still a mystery.
There will be plenty of new faces to cause trouble as well. The villain this time is Maxime Le Mal, a name that translates to "Maximum Evil" in French. Voiced by the hilarious Will Ferrell, Maxime is sure to be a worthy adversary for Gru. He'll be joined by his partner-in-crime, Valentina, though details about her character and voice actress are yet to be revealed.
The movie's creators, Illumination Studios, have been keeping the plot under wraps, but they have hinted at some of the challenges Gru will face. It seems like Gru and Lucy will be dealing with more than just supervillainy. They'll also have to navigate the ever-changing world of parenthood, especially with a mischievous new member of the family.
Of course, no Despicable Me movie would be complete without the Minions. These gibberish-speaking yellow goofballs are back to steal the show. We can expect them to be their usual chaotic selves, getting into all sorts of silly situations and providing endless laughs.
In typical Despicable Me fashion, the marketing for the movie has been playful and funny. A recent promo video poked fun at the trend of interconnected movie universes, showing a fake timeline of future "Despicable Me" films with ridiculous titles. This lighthearted approach has fans excited to see what Gru and the gang will be up to next.
